THE URGENCY'S SELF-TITLED DEBUT IN STORES APRIL 21
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THE URGENCY’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT IN STORES APRIL 21
FRESH FROM A PAIR OF STELLAR PERFORMANCES AT SXSW, THE URGENCY WILL TOUR BRIEFLY WITH 311 BEFORE GOING OVERSEAS WITH HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD AND SILVERSTEIN
TO SUPPORT UK ROCKERS THE BLACKOUT
BAND TO PLAY AT BAMBOOZLE ON MAY 3
March 20, 2009—The Urgency, fresh from a pair of breakout performances at SXSW, is preparing the release of its self-titled debut on Mercury/The Militia Group April 21. That same day the band will launch a brief tour with 311 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
A stop at Bamboozle on May 3 and an overseas tour with the UK’s The Blackout, Hollywood Undead, and Silverstein will follow.
Influenced by post-hardcore bands such as At the Drive-in, and Glassjaw, The Urgency mixes in a more seductive pop groove to their sound. A collective by way of Brooklyn meets Burlington, Virginia, the diverse songs on The Urgency’s debut remain consistently powerful and intensely memorable. “Fingertips,” the record’s opening track as well as the band’s first single, is a steamy, sexually-charged rocker about seduction. Elsewhere, the group weaves in elements of punk (“Crimes,” which starts soft and explodes into a speedy chorus), Police-style rock (“Stop”), and contemplative pop (“Memories”), and even ventures into the ethereal, as the dreamy, muffled “Lullaby” gently winds down the album.
Teaming up with producer David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Bruce Hornsby) before ever signing a record deal, the band, managed by Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken of SRP management (who discovered Rihanna), eventually signed to Island subsidiary, Mercury Records. Their self-titled debut will be in stores on April 21 via Mercury/Militia Records.
Be on the lookout for The Urgency when they hit the road.
